Kiah's Love Language

Have you ever heard about the 5 love languages? Its a book that talks about 5 ways people love. Each person has a special love language, a way that they communicate and feel love. Everyone is different, so understanding someone's love language can help you show, do or say they right things to make someone you love KNOW and FEEL love from you. The five languages are Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service & Physical Touch. You can read more about them {here}.
I know what my love languages are, and its great being able to express to my husband or to my kids how I perceive love, what they say or do that makes me feel especially loved. I wanted to be able to do the same for the kids, and know their love language. So I decided to have them take the test! Today I am sharing Kiah's Love Language.

Her #1 Love Language is Quality Time.
A very close 2nd was words of affirmation, 3rd acts of service, 4th physical touch and last was gifts.

I actually wasn't surprised that quality time was the way she feels loved the most. She craves mommy time, daddy daughter dates and enjoys just sitting next to me doing nothing more than leaning her head on my shoulder, reading what I write or what I read. But it was still very cool to know for sure, and to see what other love languages are at the top of the list for her. She is actually a lot like me! But my number one is words of affirmation and my number 2 is quality time, and then the last 3 are in the exact same order for me.

Have you ever taken the test for yourself or for your kids?
If so, what are your love languages?
If not, take the test {here} and feel free to share!
Do you think they are accurate?

Number 77

Little Bruce got his number & uniform last week!
We were hoping he would get #44 because thats the number The Daddy had when he played football.
But 77 is a great number.
The uniforms look amazing and I could help but think just how handsome and Bad Ace he looked in it! ;)
Spartan Pride, baby!!
GAH! Isnt he just one of the most handsome little boys you have every seen?!?!?
Seriously my heart is melting, he is a miniature version of The Daddy, and just Gorgeous.
Recently they had their sports portraits taken,
and I was total mommarazzi taking some behind the scenes photos! ;)
Dont worry, we also ordered some and I can hardly wait to get them!
But for now I will enjoy these as a sneak peek!

The Sport Of Meatball Explained

I mention before how Zander said he plays Meatball and has to go to meatball practice,
just like Brucey goes to football practice and Kiah goes to Soccer practice.
So out of curiosity I asked Zander to explain to me how meatball is played.
In his own words this was his answer:

"I throw meatballs at Dora (Dora the Explorer - for those of you who dont know.. he loves that show!) and Dora explodes. I also throw meatballs at Boots.
I also can wrap up the meatballs and throw them at Dora. And Dora explodes. Then I wrap up the meatballs and throw them at Boots and Boots explodes too. We throw 11 meatballs."

I have no clue where this idea for this game came from. All I know is that he has a great imagination, and is very curious and very tuned into anything and everything around him. So anything he sees in books, or hears, even just once, from tv, from friends, family, whoever and what ever, he pays attention. He remembers and he incorporates it into his imagination. So somehow he has come up with "meatball" through various things put together, I'm sure.

He is the only one of my kids that plays amazingly by himself for HOURS. He will talk to himself or his toys. He will read to himself or sing songs. He is very independent and imaginative like that. So the fact that he somehow came up with this sport/game shouldn't surprise me, but it still sort of does. He never ceases to amaze me. I wish I could peek into his mind and really see how things work in there. He is such a fun and funny kid.

On a side note, you might have noticed his shirt that goes perfectly with this post. Well while back to school shopping for/with Kiah and Bruce I happened to find this shirt (at Target). As soon as I saw it I INSTANTLY thought of Zander and meatball practice. :) I showed the kids and they laughed instantly "getting it" too, and just loved it. So we all agreed I HAD to buy it for Zander and surprise him with it when I got home. He, of course, loved it too. He just lit up and exclaimed "Is this my meatball practice shirt?!" So cute.

Do you have a child with a fun imagination like that?
If so, whats the most interesting thing they have come up with?

First Day Of School - Teachers Gifts

Well the first day of school has come and gone.
And it actually went very well.
Normally the kids ride the bus, but I always drive them on the first day of school.
I walked Kiah to her class. And lucky her, she got a teacher that we already know.

Her teacher, Mrs. Anderson is my Step-Sister's husbands mom! And we have met her and talked to her through various family functions and such. So it was very exciting for all of us, that she ended up in her class. :) Kiah picked out a few gifts to give her new teacher, dry erase markers and a sweet apple shaped post it note holder. We wrapped them together with ribbon and attached a card that we printed out for free here. I let each of the kids write their own little message to their teachers in it. ♥

After Kiah's class we headed over to Brucey's class. I knew I would be staying with him for a while, as he gets pretty emotional and nervous. Now his teacher, Mrs. Threlkeld, is actually the wife of MY  5th grade teacher! He was one of my favorite teachers growing up and I recognized the name instantly. So I thought that was fun and interesting. :)

Brucey picked out a big fun kleenex pack, and I got her a gift card for extra supplies. She was so very thankful as the schools dont provide many of  the supplies needed, these days! Anyways, I stayed in class with Bruce and even helped out for a while until he got comfortable enough for me to leave without him crying. He ended up having one of his good friends from his Kindergarten class in this class AND their seats happened to be right next to each other! So that was great. (For all of us!)

This was definitely a great first day. And just a little bit bitter sweet for me. It will be nice to be back on this schedule and have a little more ME time to get some work done, and hopefully be able to open my shop again. But I will definitely miss Summer and all the extra time with the kids.

So how was YOUR kids' first day back to school??
Did you plan or do any fun gifts for the teacher(s)?

A Lot Like Me, Only Better.

Bruce has been going to football practice for about 3 weeks now. Though he says he likes it and its fun, and he is getting used to it and all he has to do, he still gets very emotional when he heads down to the field. He is so shy. He has not made and friends yet. He is kind of the odd kid out. Most of the other boys have already played football last year and know each other. He is just not as out going to talk to or make friends with the other kids. So, he walks down alone, and comes back up when he is down, alone.

I feel for him.
My heart breaks for him. I understand how scared, shy and nervous he must be.
He is so much like me in that aspect.

But I am beyond proud of him, because even though he is so much like me, he is still TOUGH and BRAVE. Just like The Daddy. He wants to do his best. To show no fear. So, though he has tears in his eyes, he grabs his gear and walks, head up, determined not to let a single teardrop fall. He walks alone and without hesitation, down to the field to the spot where his team meets. He knows what he has to do, and he does it.

I respect him for that. I am overwhelmed with emotion and pride because of that. That's something I'd NEVER do - or at least never would have done at his age.

I needed someone. Someone with me. A hand to hold. A leader to follow. Someone to make sure I was doing it right. Because even if I KNEW I was doing it right, whatever the situation, I still felt fear I might be doing something the wrong way. I needed and wanted that hand to hold. He, though he wants it, doesn't need the hand to hold. He is a lot more confident than I ever was at his age and even AM now sometimes.

He is a lot like me, only better.

As a parent that makes me so happy. It brings me joy and I say it again PRIDE (I cant say it enough).
Pride in my son, in who he is, and who we are raising him to be.

Shy. Awkward. Loving. Emotional. But also tough, confident and even more so... Brave.

I love this kid. So much. He makes my heart swell, my eyes water, and my lips smile.

Framboise Raspberry Cupcakes  by Frugal Foodie Mama
This is my recipe for my award-winning (They really are award-winning!  I placed 3rd in a cup cake bake-off with them. ;) ) Framboise Raspberry Cupcakes with Dark Chocolate Buttercream frosting.  After purchasing a bottle of Lindeman's Framboise Lambic (a raspberry beer), I decided that I wanted to create a cup cake with it.  I used the beer and a fresh raspberry puree in the batter.  And what goes best with raspberry?  Dark chocolate, of course!  I love this decadent recipe (and so did the bake-off judges!).

This is a recent "about me" post... a way for my new readers {and some of the older ones} to get to know me better!
